I read A Simple Plan and thought it was the perfect read. Very cool he gave a good review on your new book. If it's as good as your first, I am ready! Can't wait!

Dear Justin:

Thanks for posting the link to The Story of Mimi-Nashi-Hoichi! I loved the tale, and your question about favorite tales sent me back into my collection of ghost stories, a very enjoyable task! Not sure I can come up with a favorite; almost anything by M. R. James I like. Reread The Mezzotint for the umpteenth time last night among others by James. One I come back to time and again is The Tapestried Chamber by Walter Scott--it miiiight be my favorite. Another, by Edith Nesbit: "Man-sized in Marble," which I really enjoy but whose conventions (of an age) make me laugh. I think the antiquarian ones are particularly interesting, apparently! As I was poking around in a collected volume of English ghost stories, I remembered a recent read, not necessarily a ghost story but definitely informed by some of the conventions: The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters (2009, good stuff). Are there others you recommend? I could read quality ghost stories of many varieties on and on....

Really looking forward to getting The White Devil!

Sexual ambiguous protagonist is often too heavily questioned and riddled among readers.I for once not even shocked by the fact that people still find it hard to believe that a hero can not be free to express his sexual preferences, not even in a fiction.John Connolly in his fascinating book 'the book of lost thing' also portrayed the companion of the story's hero as someone who is in searched of his best friend who has been questioned 'to harbor a romantic feeling more than one should to a guy friend'.Honestly it doesn't matter to me. Love transcending beyond the gender preference.

Splayed out on the bed next to me, pages 42 and 43 facedown and creepy gargoyle-topped schoolboy face up: The White Devil, a galley pulled from a stack a week ago.

I don't usually look up an author so early into an advanced read. But here I am enjoying this story enough to come tell you.

Nobody gave Uncle Freddie's daughter whiskey when she was a sick little kid. It was always something truly nasty from the pharmacy.
She predicts that he will sip and read with great pleasure. (Even if he moves fast through Chapters 7, 9, 1, 14, & 17!)
